Lindvallen and Sälfjällstorget
Most venues in one place: at Sälfjällstorget Torgkrogen (après-ski and dinner, winter season from early December) and Olarsgården’s Restaurang Elgen on Olarsvägen, with a lunch buffet every day, all year round; around Experiumtorget, Experium’s restaurants: Sigillo (buffet for families), Bon Bistro Bar, Café Von Paul, Lodgebaren and Majkens Sylta with Majkens Take Away; at the foot of Gustavbacken, Gustav Grill & Bar with its own brewery, serving lunch, après-ski and à la carte, and Lammet & Grisen with whole roast lamb and pork belly, open from 5 pm. In Lindvallen you’ll also find Fågelboet, Frö (vegetarian and vegan), Appetito Ristorante (Italian, takeaway and dinner boxes), Burn & Bite, Lindvallen’s Wärdshus, Korv & Bröd, Burger King and Ubbes takeaway pizza. Olarslodgen and Stenlodgen are within walking distance of the square.
Högfjället
Högfjällshotellet’s restaurants – Onkel Jean, TB Grill Room, Brasserie Clüver and Vinterträdgården – are open from December to April. Gammelgården at Hemfjället, a short drive from the market square, offers an à la carte menu every day of the year featuring game and char, and a waffle hut on Fridays and Saturdays from 12 noon to 4 pm. Appetito is situated on Högfjällsvägen, next to the dog-sledding meeting point.
Tandådalen
Tandådalen’s Wärdshus by the square opens its doors at 10.30 in winter, serving lunch from 11.30, après-ski from 15 and closing at 18; Wärsan nightclub is in the same building in the evening. Gattarstugan is within walking distance.
Hundfjället
Fjällkåtan and Lyktan are the classic spots at Hundfjällstorget, serving well-prepared mountain fare in smaller portions; Trollskogen’s café is ideal for families during the day. It’s quieter than the squares at Lindvallen and Tandådalen.
Sälens and Stöten
In the village, Bullans Café & Restaurant in Sälen Gallerian, open all year round Monday–Saturday with a daily lunch special on weekdays, and ICA. At Stöten Brasseriet, there’s après-ski Monday–Saturday from 3 pm to 5 pm during the season, a nightclub in the evenings and dinner Thursday–Saturday from the autumn half-term. Halster Bar & Bistro (Kläppen) serves lunch from 11.30 am to 2 pm when the venue is open.
Lunch in Sälen
All year round: Olarsgården’s Elgen in Lindvallen, lunch buffet every day from 11.30 to 14.00 for 159 kr on weekdays, 179 kr at weekends and 125 kr for children; Bullans in Sälen’s village on weekdays; Gammelgården. In winter, there’s also Gustav Grill, Tandådalen’s Wärdshus from 11.30, Experium’s restaurants and the mountain restaurants on the slopes. In summer, the choice is more limited – expect Olarsgården, Gammelgården and Bullans.
Cafés
Café Von Paul at Experium and Ylvas våffelstuga at Gustav Express, serving freshly baked waffles, goulash soup and coffee and cake; the waffle hut at Gammelgården, open Friday–Saturday; Bullans in the village; and Fjällbagarn for bread to take away. The waffle huts on the slopes open when the ski lifts start running in December.
Open out of season
From November until the lifts open in December, and from the end of April until June, there are three places you can count on: Olarsgården, Gammelgården and Bullans. The restaurants at Experium follow the swimming pool’s opening hours; Gustav Grill is open during the autumn half-term; and Stöten’s Brasserie opens for the autumn half-term. What’s open month by month: Restaurants are open in Sälen during the summer and autumn. If you’d like to avoid the kitchen altogether: breakfast delivered to your door and a chef in the kitchen can be booked through our partners – have breakfast delivered to the cottage in Sälen.
