Our favourites
Lindvallen – the largest, with the most restaurants, and Experium
Lindvallen is Sälen’s largest area: three chairlifts – the Gustav Express, the Experium Express and the Söderåsen Express – four squares and Valleberget, one of Europe’s largest children’s areas. This is where you’ll find Experium, with its water park, spa, bowling alley and cinema, and Magic Mountain lights up Valleberget every evening from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm, from week 51 until 7 March. The lifts run until 6.00 pm every day from 20 December. The area: Lindvallen in Sälen. Our chalets here: Olarslodgen and Stenlodgen next to Sälfjällstorget, and the Skiers Lodge with ski-in/ski-out access – residents of Lindvallen.
The High Mountains – barren mountain landscapes and the classic mountain hotel
Högfjället is the smallest of SkiStar’s areas: 6 lifts and 9 runs above the tree line, mostly green and blue, with the Högfjällshotellet (built in 1937) as its hub and transport lifts to Lindvallen. Ideal for those who want to stay high up in open country, and for those who prefer long turns to queues. The area: The High Mountains in Sälen. Our houses overlooking Högfjällsbacken: Sälengodset and Fjällgodset at Gamla Sälfjällstangen.
Tandådalen – Sälen’s largest Snow Park and the steepest slopes
Tandådalen is linked to Hundfjället via connecting lifts and comprises two sections: Eastern Tandådalen, with wide blue and red carving runs and Sälen’s largest Snow Park, and Tandådalstorget, with Valle’s ski area and some of Sälen’s steeper runs at Solliften. Afterski has been based at Tandådalen’s Wärdshus since 1969. The area: Tandådalen in Sälen. Our house here: Gattarstugan for 24 guests – residents of Tandådalen.
Hundfjället – Trollskogen, Väggen and the family area
Hundfjället features both Sälen’s most famous children’s adventure, Trollskogen with over 800 trolls, and one of Sweden’s steepest slopes, Väggen with a gradient of up to 45 degrees. The SkiStar Lodge Hundfjället is situated at Hundfjällstorget, with the West Express bus stop outside the entrance. Evenings here are quieter than in Lindvallen. The area: Hundfjället in Sälen. Nearest to our houses: Villa Åsstigen, five minutes’ drive away, and Gattarstugan in Tandådalen – living in Hundfjället.
Stöten – its own resort, its own lift pass and Sälen’s longest run
Stöten is the northernmost resort, just over three mil from Lindvallen, and is not operated by SkiStar: it has its own ski pass, 50 runs, 23 lifts and the ‘Mormors’ downhill run, which is 3,060 metres long. Floodlit slopes until 6.00 pm every day. The quietest of the six resorts. The resort: Stöten to Sälen.
Kläppen – family-run, with a gondola, south of the village
Kläppen in Transtrand is situated 15 kilometres south of the village of Sälen and 17 kilometres from Lindvallen: Family-owned since 1982, with 41 runs, 22 lifts, Sälen’s only gondola and 10 kilometres of floodlit slopes open until 18.00. Separate lift pass. Kläppen’s autumn park opens for skiing on stored snow as early as the beginning of October.
Quick comparison – ski passes, night skiing and distances
- Ski pass: a SkiPass for Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen and Hundfjället; Stöten and Kläppen sell their own tickets.
- Sticking together on skis: Lindvallen–Högfjället and Tandådalen–Hundfjället. A ski bus runs between these stops – free of charge when travelling on the SkiPass – or you can travel by car.
- Evening skiing until 6.00 pm from 20 December: Lindvallen every day, Högfjället Friday–Saturday, Tandådalen Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday, Hundfjället Monday/Wednesday/Friday/Sunday; Stöten and Kläppen: floodlit slopes until 18.00 every day.
- Distance from Sälfjällstorget to Lindvallen: Högfjället approx. 4 km, Tandådalen 13 km, Hundfjället 14 km, Kläppen 17 km, Stöten just over 30 km.
- 2026/27 season: Lindvallen 4 December–18 April, other SkiStar areas 11 December–11 April, Stöten 10 December–11 April, Kläppen from 11 December.
- The shortest route to the slopes: the houses are within walking distance or you can leave your skis by the door Ski-in, ski-out at Sälen.

Lindvallen - a favourite with families with children
Lindvallen is perfect for families with children thanks to its central location near the Experium water park, child-friendly ski slopes and wide range of services. Here you will find everything from cosy cottages to modern apartments, many with ski in/ski out access.
Tandådalen & Hundfjället
Tandådalen and Hundfjället are known for their snow-sure slopes and sporty atmosphere. The cottage areas here offer good access to varied skiing and are suitable for both families and more experienced skiers looking for challenging slopes.
Gubbmyren, Gruven, Gusjösätern
For those who prioritise tranquillity and proximity to cross-country tracks, areas such as Gubbmyren, Gruven and Gusjösätern are excellent choices. Here you live in a quieter environment but still have a reasonable distance to ski slopes and services.
Fjällåsen, Orrliden, Trolldalen
These cosy mountain villages offer a more traditional and genuine atmosphere. The cottages here often have a classic mountain character and the areas are suitable for those looking for an authentic mountain experience with proximity to both slopes and cross-country tracks.
Köarsfjället & Dammkölen
The Köarsfjället and Dammkölen areas are known for their fantastic views and great sunshine. Here you live high up with panoramic views of the mountains and at the same time have proximity to unspoilt nature for hiking and outdoor activities.
Stöten - northernmost ski area
Stöten is Sälen's northernmost ski area and offers several fine holiday villages with ski in/ski out facilities. The area has a quieter atmosphere than the central parts of Sälen but still offers good service and great skiing opportunities.

How far apart are the areas?
