The cheapest weeks

The low-season rate applies from the end of April to the end of November – a week in Sälengodset then costs 29,500 SEK, compared with 82,500 SEK in winter. During the winter outside the school holidays, from 3 January to 10 April (excluding the winter sports holiday weeks), the price is the same as during the school holidays in most properties, so it is availability rather than price that is the deciding factor. The most expensive periods are Christmas and New Year, the winter sports holiday in The Skiers Lodge and the days between Christmas and New Year. A tip: early spring in April, 11–24 April, has its own lower price in Sälengodset, Fjällgodset and Gattarstugan, with snow still on the slopes.

We do not run discount promotions – the price is the seasonal rate, and any available dates can be booked straight away. Available dates are shown on each property’s booking page, and last-minute vacancies are listed here: last minute in Sälen.

Season and week

The biggest price influencer is the week you travel. During the Christmas and New Year, the sports holiday weeks 7-9 and Easter is when demand is highest - and prices go up with it. If you opt instead for weeks 2-5, a March week outside the holidays or one of the shoulder periods in May-June and September-November, the price level drops sharply without compromising the experience. Last minute offers We don’t offer this – availability outside the peak season is booked at the off-peak rate.

Location and proximity

The location comes close behind. Ski in/ski out, walking distance to lifts and addresses like Sälfjällstorget, Lindvallen and Hundfjället gives a clear premium feel. A house with an unobstructed mountain view, south-facing terrace or direct access to cross-country tracks is also more expensive. If you move just a few minutes away by car, the price often drops significantly without the travel time being noticeable. A smart intermediate option is accommodation with parking, electric car chargers and close to ski bus - convenient without the top premium.

Size, standard and comfort

Larger houses with 15–24 beds cost more overall, but are often the cheapest per person once you’ve filled all the beds. Sälengodset and Fjällgodset are examples of large mountain houses where the cost per guest is reasonable in terms of comfort. Newly built or newly renovated houses with sauna, jacuzzi, fireplace, drying room, fast Wi-Fi and large living areas are always priced higher than older standard cabins. Details such as corner location, views, extra fridge/freezer, double dishwasher and work-friendly surfaces also influence the final price.

Options and services

Optional extras make a difference. Made beds, towels, departure cleaning, firewood, cots, pet supplement, early check-in, catering or private chef adds convenience - but affects the cost. Always compare what is included when you look at different properties. Two similar houses can cost thousands of euros differently depending on whether or not service packages and final cleaning are included.

Booking channel and timing

Direct booking through the host is often cheapest, as external platforms take commission. Early-bird discounts come when calendars are opened 9-12 months in advance, especially for weeks outside holidays. Last minutes We do not offer discounted rates – stays outside the peak season are booked at the standard seasonal rate. Being flexible with your dates – for example, Sunday to Thursday – or filling a gap between two bookings can significantly reduce the price.

Events and special weeks

Vasaloppet's winter and summer weeks, festivals, competitions and conferences affect the price level. During these weekends, demand increases throughout the area, especially near Berga by and cross-country tracks. If you have the freedom to opt out of these dates, you can often get the same house at a better price the week before or after.

Summary – how to get the right price

The price of mountain accommodation in Sälen depends on the season, location, standard and options. If you want to optimise your experience without paying top dollar, choose a non-holiday week in January or March, book directly with the host, fill the beds and compare what's included. You'll get luxury, comfort and a mountain feel at a sensible price.
